Do I Care If My TV Shows Are Rated?

The simplest answer is... No.

I know, I know, a lot of parents find it useful in watching what their children see and protecting them.
Wait, hey! My parents never monitored what I watched. I never payed attention to those ratings, and neither did they! Those little boxes in the left hand of the screen meant nothing to us! I turned out fine? I know a lot of other people my age that could tell you the same thing.

Could parents trying to protect their children too much be to blame for why this rating system is even in effect? Honestly, if you don't want your 7 year old child to hear swearing and see violence, please, I beg of you, DO NOT send them to public school. It's an R rated movie, all day, everyday, there.

Is it right that one small scene could change the rating of a TV show and persuade a parent not to let their child watch it? No. The parent should just be able to explain that the events in that scene were wrong. It's called good parenting.

I don't know about you, but I think rating systems, especially on TV, are not necessary.
